If you’re shopping for a dry-erase board, you’re going to have to decide between a porcelain or melamine one. If you’re wondering what the difference was, so are a lot of people. It can be puzzling to understand why these products are so different and why porcelain boards are so much more expensive.
Re: Melamine or PVC snake rack You can make recesses in PVC or melamine with a router or if it is a very small rack a dremel style rotary tool, and an appropriately sized (just a little larger than you heat strips) cutter.
During those early years, we built thousands of feet of almond and white melamine boxes. The first thing we noticed about working with melamine over plywood was the bad cut lines.
Whereas the final product with low-pressure laminate is attached to a substrate of board, attaching high-pressure laminate to board is usually an entirely different process. We have found ‘melamine’ to be the material most suited to the manufacturing of office furniture for most work settings.
Melamine is the professional cabinetmaker’s best friend. Build a cabinet with it and you have a complete, durable interior that requires no sanding (yes!) and no finishing (oh, yeah!). Pros often build whole kitchens out of melamine and then dress the boxes with plywood end panels and solid-wood fronts.
Melamine is produced with a pressure of just 300-500psi while to make a laminate a pressure of 1400psi is required. No pasting over a board is needed with melamine whereas carpenters require pasting a laminate over a board to make the finished product for office or kitchen use.
